THINGS TO DO AROUND ERICA
Mt Baw Baw
Enjoy the surroundings and warm fire at Erica Caravan Park after visiting Mt Baw Baw which is a main ski mountain in Victoria, with 30 hectares of mainly beginner-intermediate ski runs with seven lifts servicing a variety of runs. The village offers ski in-ski out access with downhill runs, and a number of cross country trails across the Baw Baw plateau. The local ski season is usually from July to the end of September.
During the summer months, Erica, Moondarra National Park, Mt Baw Baw & the surrounding Areas are popular for hiking and bushwalking. The alpine grasses are blanketed with wildflowers and walks at a higher elevation pass through snow gum forest at Mt Baw Baw. Popular walks include the Great Walhalla Alpine Trail, which starts at the gold mining town of Walhalla and finishes at the Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort. The hike is the first 40 kilometres of the Australian Alps Walking Track.
Another favourite is the cycling available. The 7 peaks ride up Mount Baw Baw Tourist Road features one of the toughest climbs accessible by road bicycles in Australia. The final climb of 6..2 kilometres rises 718 metres. The Mount Baw Baw Classic is an annual cycling race held by the Warragul Cycling Club, and ends at the village.
If road cycling is not your thing then try Downhill mountain biking on the purpose-built downhill track located on the south western side of the mountain. The track comprises a good mix of cambered dirt, rocks, fire road as well as technical sections.
